One $13 Pepperoni Pizza?
That’ll be $440 please!
One $16,000 Car?
That’ll be $25,000.
Another Credit Card?
Nice, until you have to drop out of University to pay them off!
Sounds like a bunch of baloney?
Guess what: it happens and happens and happens…!
“But not to me though….”
It happens to a lot of students, why not to you? Are you so perfect you’ve never made a little mistake or two?
Show Me gives you a closer look at many of the horror stories happening to students, their pocketbooks and often their futures — horror stories frequently triggered by a tiny, easy-to-make mistake. More important, Show Me gives you the tools to avoid becoming a horror story yourself.
What can you do?
Use me… I will be providing you with basic, real and unbiased information on a wide variety of financial situations and choices — whether it’s about buying a car, getting another credit card, building credit, bouncing checks, ordering pizza or traveling around the world.
I’m Will from Holland. Together with Craig Barnes, I’m the one responsible person you can count on for the unbiased information you’ll find on Show Me. I attended the Hanzehogeschool Groningen in the Netherlands. (Pronounce my school and my full name—Wicher Jelle deHoo—correctly and get a free used pizza!). During my student years I was ripped off and taken advantage of because I didn’t pay attention to what others were doing to me financially.
After a year of working, I’m still paying off “minor” loans I borrowed during my college years. Even with that, I’m one of the lucky ones. I will get out from under this “debt load” soon. Many students are not so lucky.
And I’m no different from the “unlucky” ones —I loved to party, as well as to windsurf—both expensive. You’ve heard and seen the ads, “Get a small loan, that’ll pay for your fun.” I believed them. Have you ever used that reasoning also? Well, you’ll get your money. But you’ll be sorry, I’ll tell you that!
Show Me will help you avoid lingering moments in your financial life. Show Me isn’t about selling products; it’s about educating you with the information you need to make good financial and life choices.
A “real time” site: the news at Show Me changes constantly, too.
Who’s sponsoring Show Me? Digital Federal Credit Union provides Show Me because a credit union is member owned, it has a vested interest in protecting you financially. If you get ripped off, you can’t afford to use the credit union’s products and services, and might not be able to pay back your credit union loans. We get hurt, too.
That’s why I hope you’ll flip through our website. You’ll definitely find interesting stories about traveling, internships, or maybe even some useful information about how to pay for your pizza! They are getting more expensive every year. After flipping through Show Me, you’ll find loads of information you’ll want to visit again and again about making better choices with your limited income and easy credit…
Oh, by the way, the pizza thing really happened. You, too, can make a cheap pizza expensive. Eager to find out how?
Read the $440 pizza article and try this at home. It works!
